Kims honored

Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary president William O. Crews (left) presents the Alumni Achievement Award for 2001 to Paul and Rebekah Kim, founders of Berkland Baptist Church near the University of California at Berkeley. Since beginning in 1981, the church has spawned a dozen other churches across the United States and in the Pacific Rim. The Kims currently live in Cambridge, Mass., where he is leading the Berkland congregation near Harvard University. They were honored at Golden Gate Seminary's annual luncheon June 13 in New Orleans at the Southern Baptist Convention.

NEW ORLEANS, June 13 -- Recording artist Wintley Phipps opens the rescue-themed presentation of the Southern Baptist Convention's North American Mission Board. His song, "Four Chaplains on the Sea of Glory," describes how four chaplains on a battleship during World War II sacrificed their lives to help fellow crewmen when their ship was hit and there were not enough life jackets to go around. The SBC met June 12-13 in the Louisiana Superdome.

Reccord introduces courageous missionary volunteer during NAMB report

NEW ORLEANS, June 13 - During a rescue-themed presentation, Robert E. Reccord, president, North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, introduces Mission Service Corps volunteer Sue Low during the annual NAMB report to SBC messengers. Low serves in Dallas, where she leads Bible studies and shares Christ with men in correctional institutions. Throughout her ministry, she said during a live interview with Reccord, she has led more than 1,600 individuals to faith in Christ. The SBC held its 144th annual national meeting June 12-13 in the Louisiana Superdome.

NEW ORLEANS, June 13 -- Robert E. Reccord, president, North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, introduces his agency's annual report to Southern Baptists, presented as the SBC gathers for its 144th annual national session June 12-13 in the Louisiana Superdome.

James Dobson addresses SBC via satellite uplink

NEW ORLEANS, June 13 -- James Dobson, founder and president of Focus on the Family, Colorado Springs, Colo., addresses messengers to the 144th annual national meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention via satellite uplink. Dobson was scheduled to appear live but instead spoke via satellite when mechanical problems forced his plane to make an emergency landing back in Colorado Springs, Colo. The SBC was held June 12-13 in the Louisiana Superdome.
